Introducing the EBSPE Project

We are working on something exciting!

A few months ago, we were awarded a grant by the Portuguese Government, in the scope of COVID-19 R&D projects, to research and develop a system for contact back-tracing and enforcement policies to users that don’t have a mobile phone.

The project has two main goals:

  1. Bring contact backtracing to a population who might not have a smartphone (e.g. elderly people in nursing houses) and is fully aligned with EU recommendations for contact backtracing mobile apps to fight COVID-19)
  2. Allow enforcing of rules in corporate environments, like factories or construction sites. Some examples include:
      • Limiting the areas/rooms where each coworker is allowed to enter, or
      • Defining the maximum number of coworkers allowed in each space

The solution will make use of smart badges which people must carry with them, and will be prepared to further integrate with existing systems (e.g. the contact tracing apps available in different countries).

The applications are endless!

In July, we started a pilot phase of this project with Instituto Pedro Nunes, where our headquarters is, as our test subject. People from IPN will be wearing these badges and sets of rules have been made in order to manage where people are, where they can go, and where they can safely go to.

We are excited to start pilot phase and of course a huge Thank You to IPN for trying it out with us!

This project is cofinanced by Centro 2020, Portugal 2020 and the European Union through FEDER (Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional).
